Growing the Future, Feeding & Clothing the World, Shaping Communities

We turn passion for agriculture into impact.

Agriculture today is more than farms and fields. It’s technology, sustainability, food systems, environmental science and the future of how communities thrive.

At Delaware State University, the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) brings these ideas together connecting students, growers, researchers and communities to shape what agriculture can become.

Meet DANR

Where education, research and community meet.

The Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is part of the College of Agriculture, Science & Technology (CAST) at Delaware State University. Grounded in the university’s 1890 land-grant mission, DAFE connects education, research and Cooperative Extension to create solutions that strengthen communities and expand opportunity.

Students gain hands-on experience through research, field work and industry partnerships. Growers access research-backed support and technical expertise. Communities benefit from programs that advance environmental stewardship, food systems and public health.

Together, these efforts position DANR as a hub where discovery leads to real-world impact.

A Modern Vision for Agriculture

DANR represents a modern vision of agriculture, one that blends science, innovation and community partnership.

Within the department, academic programs, research initiatives and Cooperative Extension work sidebyside to address real challenges in agriculture, food systems, environmental sustainability, human ecology and community development.

How We Make a Difference

From campus research to community outcomes.

DANR’s work reaches far beyond campus. Through education, research and outreach, the division contributes to stronger communities, resilient food systems and new opportunities across Delaware and beyond.

Students participate in research and experiential learning that prepares them for careers in agriculture, environmental science, food systems, human ecology and public service. Growers gain access to researchinformed practices and technical assistance. Community members engage in programs that support health, youth development and environmental stewardship.

Knowledge in Action

Connecting research with real‑world needs.

A key part of DANR’s impact comes through Cooperative Extension, which connects university research directly to the communities it serves.

Extension specialists work alongside farmers, families, youth organizations and community partners to translate research into practical knowledge and solutions.
